Injustice: Year Three Annual #1 Review

Once again, DC is filling in the gap between volumes of Injustice with a standalone annual issue that explores two untold stories in this video game universe. It’s a decent release for fans craving something before Year Four kicks off next month, but neither tale really lives up to the standard of the main series.

The first story in this issue sees former Justice League Dark writer Ray Fawkes lend his own take on the magical conflict that dominated Year Three. Doctor Occult (one of DC’s oldest characters) takes center stage here as he’s drawn into Batman and Constantine’s web. It’s interesting to see Year Three through a new and outside perspective, and Fawkes exploits Occult’s supernatural connection with his wife to great effect. Xermanico’s art is also a major draw. Free of the confines of the weekly series, Xermanico slathers his pages with an extra level of detail and dark texture. But the script lacks the peppy flow of the main series, and ultimately it adds little to the larger picture. We didn’t need a reminder at this point that Constantine is a self-interested schemer who shouldn’t be trusted. Year Three covered that.

10 most wanted Apple Watch jailbreak tweaks

Apple Watch Jailbreak Watch OS 3

It officially launched less than a week ago, but many people are already thinking about jailbreaking the Apple Watch. I’ve seen prominent hackers and developers talk about jailbreaking Apple’s new wearable device, and I’ve heard it mentioned several times on some prominent podcasts.

The question is, why are so many people interested in jailbreaking Apple’s new hardware? The answer is mixed, but there are lots of similarities to iPhone OS and the early iPhone hardware. When the iPhone first launched back in 2007, it was severely limited. You couldn’t copy and paste, you couldn’t have custom wallpaper, there was no App Store, etc. Jailbreaking eventually allowed early users to do all of those things.

Similar to the early iPhone software, Watch OS 1.0 won’t allow users to do things like use custom watch faces, or run native apps. Jailbreaking could, in theory, allow for both of these features. But that’s not all. Jailbreaking Watch OS opens up a whole new realm of possibilities…. Read the rest of this post here

Ruffalo Wants Marvel to Make More Black Widow Merchandise

Mark Ruffalo has kindly asked Marvel for more Black Widow merchandise.

“Marvel, we need more #BlackWidow merchandise for my daughters and nieces”, the Avengers star tweeted out. “Pretty please”

Ruffalo’s tweet comes in response to news that very little official Avengers: Age of Ultron merchandise features the character. As brought to my attention by The Mary-Sue, out of 56 official items on Marvel.com, Black Widow can be found on four. Other Marvel retailers like Hot Topic and SuperHeroStuff don’t offer much more.

Furious 7 director James Wan is being circled by Sony to direct its adaptation of the 1980s cartoon series Robotech, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Wan reportedly has the offer and is in early talks to helm the live-action film, the rights to which Sony Pictures secured last month. A Robotech film had previously been gestating at Warner Bros. since 2007; at the time Tobey Maguire was attached to produce.

EU probe of Irish tax policy could have ‘material’ impact on Apple

Apple Store Front logo San Francisco

The European Commission’s investigation into Ireland’s tax deals for multinational corporations could have a “material” impact on Apple, the company said in a 10Q filing to the S&E Commissions this week. If it’s determined that Dublin’s tax policies represented unfair state aid, the Cupertino firm could suffer significant losses…. Read the rest of this post here

Duchovny Talks New X-Files Episodes

David Duchovny has described the upcoming six-episode revival of The X-Files as being “like a six-hour movie.”

The Hollywood Reporter spoke with Duchovny (a.k.a. Fox Mulder on the show), who said he’s glad to not be doing full X-Files TV seasons anymore.

“When I was doing the show, I always assumed – because we started to do the movies – that we would naturally transition to not carrying the load of doing a full season of the show but doing a movie every four or five years,” said Duchovny.

According to The X-Files lead, Fox had some input on the second movie that didn’t do the franchise any favours.

Kingsman: The Secret Service 2 in the Works?

20th Century Fox reportedly has a sequel to their sleeper hit Kingsman: The Secret Service in the works.

“There was no announcement by the studio or a timetable,” according to TheWrap, “but there will be a followup to the R-rated comic book adaptation directed by Matthew Vaughn and starring Colin Firth, individuals with knowledge of the project.”

Budget at roughly $80 million, Kingsman earned over $401 million worldwide, roughly $275 million from much coveted international audiences.

No word yet on whether Matthew Vaughn will direct — he’s reportedly lined up to direct Flash Gordon for Fox — but it should be noted he’s never helmed a sequel to one of his films.
