Ted 2 was unable to dethrone the wildly successful Jurassic World at the domestic box office as the dinosaur adventure flick enjoyed its third straight week at No. 1.
Universal’s teddy bear flick was up against two formidable opponents, Jurassic World and Disney/Pixar’s Inside Out, which raked in$54.2 million and $52.1 million, respectively. The comedy sequel starring Mark Wahlberg and Seth MacFarlane only managed to pull in a disappointing $32.9 million, about $15 million less than anticipated, according to Variety.
The original Ted earned an impressive $54 million debut on the way to $549.4 million in global revenue. Ted 2 was expected to be this summer’s biggest comedy, but Universal cited “sequel-itis” as a major reason for the underwhelming start.
