The Invitation Review

Karyn Kusama’s latest thriller might be a slow burn, but the payoff at the end of the fuse is indeed explosive. The Invitation is a thriller rich with compelling characters, eerie circumstances, and paranoia that will linger with the viewer long after they’ve left the theater. Expertly crafted with a commitment to exploring the darkest corners of grief and loss through a terrifying – though still devastatingly human – lens, The Invitation will crawl under your skin and make itself quite cozy there.

The premise is simple: Will (Logan Marshall-Green) and his partner Kira (Emayatzy Corinealdi) show up for a dinner party at the home he shared with his ex-wife, Eden (Tammy Blanchard) and her new husband David (Michiel Huisman). A group of old friends joins them, and it seems as though they’re in for a night of reconnection along with some awkward, deep-rooted feelings. But the movie takes a turn before Will and Kira even arrive at the house in the Hollywood Hills, with a disturbing surprise that sets the tone for the film to come.

Reposting Vine videos to Instagram with VineGrab

I recently talked about sharing Instagram videos on Vine, a multi-step procedure that involves a third-party app to save an Instagram clip to the Camera roll before posting it manually to the Twitter-owned Vine service. So far so good. But what about the other way round? Of course that same process applies to posting vine clips on […]

How to share Instagram videos to Vine

Sharing an Instagram video on Vine, a shortform video-sharing service, is not as trivial as it seems at first blush. Instagram’s app does not connect directly to Twitter-owned Vine and Facebook is doing a surprisingly good job clamping down on third-party apps which would permit users to reshare Instagram videos to Vine. A workaround solution involves downloading these videos to your device…

Some people complain that iOS 9.3 crashes after tapping on web links

It seems that iOS 9.3 is causing unexpected behavior when tapping web links, as evidenced by Twitter and a growing thread on the Apple Support Communities forums. Hundreds of affected users are reporting that the latest iPhones, and some older devices, become unresponsive or crash after tapping or tapping-and-holding web links in both first and third-party apps such […]

Apple has 6 cloud infrastructure projects to prevent unauthorized snooping

Amid reports that it’s shifting some of the iCloud services to Google’s Cloud Platform, The Information is reporting that Apple has a total of six projects underway related to boosting its cloud infrastructure. One of them, code-named Project McQueen, calls for custom data storage systems. Apple suspects that third-party servers that power iCloud might have been intercepted during shipping…

Werewolves Within: One of Your Friends is Not Who They Say They Are

Werewolves Within is an upcoming multiplayer VR game from Ubisoft, and the first ‘social’ VR game I’ve ever played. It’s modelled off of popular party games like Mafia and Werewolf’, where each player is randomly assigned a different role, with different abilities. The game exists in talking to the other players to figure out which roles they have, and sometimes lying to the other players to hide your own role – in this case, centered around who might or might not be a werewolf. It’s chaotic, competitive and, frankly, kind of exciting.

Alanah Pearce: It’s certainly not a unique concept, but this type of game being introduced to VR does give people the opportunity to experience a ‘party game’ in the usual solace of VR – as an Australian currently living in California, I love the idea of getting to play this with friends back home.
